Cables, wiring and distribution boards used for secure power supplies must remain functional for a sufficient period of time in accordance with the requirements of the fire regulations for electrical installations (RbALei) exposed to the effects of external fire.
According to these legal construction regulations (see DIN VDE 0108 supplement 1 ) the operational safety of electrical installations of vital safety devices is safeguarded, if these installations are designed or encased by components so that they remain functional for a sufficient period of time when exposed to the effect of external fire.
The period of functionality must be at least:
- 30 minutes (E30) for fire alarm installations, devices to warn and instruct visitors and personnel, safety lighting and other emergency lighting, with the exception of final circuits, passenger lifts with evacuation control.
- 90 minutes (E90) for water pressurising plants for the supply of extinguishing water, ventilators for safety staircases, internal staircases, lift shafts and engine rooms of fire fighting lifts, smoke and heat extraction plants.
Please Note: A regulation exists according to DIN VDE 0833 "Specification for alarm systems for fire, intrusion and hold -up, requirements for fire alarm systems", according to which installations for the control of fire safety equipment or certain alarm systems, which are not primary circuits, must be designed to remain functional for at least 30 minutes. |
